PRIDE: Celebrate Cincinnati's Corporations on the CEI

So it's June and that means gay pride for most, however, I think it just important to think about those companies in Greater Cincinnati that have ranked 100% on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI). They all earn the right to be seen as "The Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality"

Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s CEI was founded in 2002 and every year it has raised the bar to enable corporations to rank.

This is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees.

Here are the basic rules to get a place on the HRC's CEI:

  1. Prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation for all operations

  2. Prohibits discrimination based on gender identity for all operations

  3. Equivalency in same- and different-sex spousal medical and soft benefits

  4. Equivalency in same- and different-sex domestic partner medical and soft benefits

  5. Equal health coverage for transgender individuals without exclusion for medically necessary care

  6. Three LGBTQ internal training and education best practices

  7. Employee group or diversity council

  8. Three distinct efforts of outreach or engagement to the broader LGBTQ community, and if supplier diversity program is in place, must include LGBTQ suppliers

  9. Contractor/supplier non-discrimination standards and philanthropic giving guidelines

  • Macy’s, Inc.
